While witnessing at my favorite fishing hole tonight, I ran into two very interesting fellows. Randall was selling copies of his newest hip-hop CD, and Benjamin was selling hot dogs. Both took pride in their knowledge of God. When I asked Randall if he had a church background he began to speak fluent Hebrew. He told me that he loves reading the Old Testament and then quoted numerous verses out of Isaiah. I then asked him if he had read anything from the Bible today and he quoted chapter one of Revelation verbatim. Benjamin grew up in church but now considers himself enlightened by science. He believes that sound waves can raise matter and that if we all shout together we can become the voice of God. There were multiple authors that he referred me to so that I could be enlightened as well. Two guys filled with head knowledge. Randall was quick to share Bible verses but indicated that he has great difficulties believing and obeying the word. He does not attend church and is living with his girlfriend and seven kids. I told Randall that it is thirteen inches from his head to his heart and we must be doers of the Word, not hearers only. With Benjamin I avoided the head topics such as evolution and parallel universes and addressed his heart. "Benjamin, before we get into the science of things, let me ask you a question. Have you ever told a lie?" I skipped the intellect and addressed the core issue. He has broken God's laws and regardless if he believes in Him, Benjamin will stand before Him one day. Neither Randall nor Benjamin wanted me to go away, both wanted to chat much longer than I had time. It was a pretty good night.
