Day 40- A Favor for a Friend

Dana received a phone call from a friend today who was hoping that I would call up someone they know to witness to them. This has happened a couple of times and I enjoy every opportunity to share. Her friend's name is Michael. Michael has been divorced for two years and is currently having some legal troubles that he would not go into. He indicated that he is very bitter toward the things of God, but he was very friendly on the phone. One of the difficult things about witnessing to someone on the phone is that I can never read their body language. I am often aware what to say and when to say it by the look on their face. Michael became very quiet after I had shared the good news. To break the silence he commented, "I understand what you are saying, but I have a lot of things to think about. I'm just bitter." This conversation reminds me a lot about the time the Tulsa ice storm ripped through and destroyed the tree in my back yard, ripped the telephone and power wires completely from the house, and left my entire neighborhood without power for two weeks. All of that and I still didn't get what I deserved. If we truly understand how depraved we really are, then nothing but gratitude should flow from our hearts.
