Witnessing to family is never easy and it really hurts when it goes bad. I have a relative who is a zoology major in college. I have a degree in science education so I am very familiar with what he is bombarded with on a daily basis. I asked, "Do you believe that we are random and purposeless?" He responded, "I'm just trying to graduate." I then shared with him a list of topics that evolutionists use to deny the existence of God. I was asking with the hopes that he may have some questions. I know that I did as I was in college and I wish that I had the biblical foundation that I have today. His response startled me, "Look, I'm not going to have this conversation with you! I don't feel like arguing. You tried this last year." I was hurt and slightly embarrassed by his reaction. Both of us turned to the football game that was playing on television and did not say anything for a considerable amount of time. At this point, all I wanted to do was go away. My attempt to reach out was misinterpreted as an opportunity to start an argument. Because he is family, I will see him again. Because I care about him, I will continue to reach out.
