By the sound of his weathered voice, my wrong number today sounded like an elderly man. I envision his shaking hand coming one digit away from the number that he needed, but the hand of God had other plans. Once this man had determined his mistake, I knew that the conversation was soon going to close. I asked, "Do you go to church?" He replied, "No, I am not affiliated with any organization." "Well, I want to invite you to my church. I go to Tulsa Bible Church and you are always welcome," I said as politely as possible. There was brief silence and then he responded, "Thank you. I appreciate the invitation. If I decide to go somewhere, I may take you up on that offer." "Do you know where you will spend eternity?" Knowing that this question would determine a continued dialogue, I waited patiently for his response. "Look," he said, "I am not interested in discussing this with you, but you have a nice day." How does this conversation line up with God's providence? I don't know. I am content with not knowing all of the details. I'm just thankful that He is in control.
